Bamburgh’s Changing Places Toilet

Bamburgh is brilliant to visit and live. But when it comes to public facilities for people with disabilities, it was a little lacking. Bamburgh Walled Garden has been designed to be an inclusive place for everyone. This includes our new Changing Places Toilet which is available for anyone who needs extra help going to the loo to use.

Everyone has the right to enjoy a great day out – and that includes using a toilet safely and comfortably. But if you, a family member or friend needs extra help going to the loo, a simple trip out can cause anxiety. You’re welcome to use our Changing Places Toilet whether you’re a café customer or just passing by.

Bamburgh’s Changing Places Toilet has been part-funded by UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the North East Combined Authority Investment Fund with the North East Combined Authority as the lead authority.

What’s inside Bamburgh’s Changing Places Toilet

A Changing Places Toilet is so much more than a conventional accessible WC.

Pleasant to use, they’re designed for people who need extra help and assistance to use a toilet. Our Changing Places Toilet has:
  • Lots of room: A spacious design with a peninsula toilet means there’s plenty of room for wheelchairs, hoists and for a carer to accompany you.
  • Specialised Equipment: A height-adjustable changing bench, overhead hoist system, and grab rails.
  • Privacy and dignity: Privacy screens for you and your carer to use the toilet comfortably and privately.
  • Stoma friendly facilities: Hooks to hang clothing and bags, shelving to spread out items, mirror to help changing appliances and disposable bins.
  • Designated parking spaces solely for users of our Changing Places Toilet.
